Meet the Artist - Dr. David Byers

Picture
Hello! I would like to introduce myself! I was born and raised in the foothills of the northeast Georgia mountains. I am a dentist and have been a dental hygiene educator since 2000. I believe we were all placed on this earth to create. Whether we choose to create ideas, technological advances, relationships, opportunities, or works of art, the choice is completely up to us. I have always enjoyed projects that allow me to demonstrate my artistic side by drawing, painting, and learning to create with wood. This is how I recharge my batteries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, as I was spending more time at home, I decided to develop my skills turning wood with a lathe. I started simple by turning cups, mugs, and small bowls with green poplar and sourwood. As my skills and knowledge began to improve, I was drawn to the interesting properties of incorporating epoxy resin into my projects, and this is the route I have chosen to invest my attention. I hope you will enjoy my attempts to find and accentuate the natural beauty in unusual pieces of wood with the addition of resin.
